چکیده

Studying vulnerability has become one of the hot issues ecological research under global change and sustainable development scenarios. However, there are few studies focusing on karst areas, especially comparison between non-karst areas. This study integrated climate factors, soil vegetation social factors within a evaluation framework that combined analytical hierarchy process (AHP) technique to evaluate compare environments 10 nature reserves five in Guizhou Province, China. The results were divided into categories: potential, light, moderate, severe, extremely severe vulnerability. indicated general national Province showed moderate index was significantly higher than reserves. vulnerability, while light Average thickness, arable area, length roads may be contributing significant difference Overall, this is conducive comprehensive understanding environment status great significance maintaining security

Combating the fragile Karst environment in Guizhou, China.

Karst landscapes—regions characterized by sinkholes, caves, springs, underground rivers, and slowly dissolving bedrock— constitute about 25% of the world’s land surface (1). Although some karst landscapes are attractive and of aesthetic value, most of them are recognized as fragile zones unsuitable as human habitats— mainly due to extremely poor soil cover, or a complete lack of soil, and rapid...

The importance of non-carbonate mineral weathering as a soil formation mechanism within a karst weathering profile in the SPECTRA Critical Zone Observatory, Guizhou Province, China

Soil degradation, including rocky desertification, of the karst regions in China is severe. Karst landscapes are especially sensitive to soil degradation as carbonate rocks are nutrient-poor and easily eroded. Understanding the balance between soil formation and soil erosion is critical for long-term soil sustainability, yet little is known about the initial soil forming processes on karst terr...

Vulnerability of the karst area related to potentially toxic elements

Soil samples from 31 locations in the Una river spring catchment were subject to chemical extraction analyses. The data were presented as distribution maps of potentially toxic elements (Al, Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn) in the surface soil of the area. To evaluate the vulnerability of the immediate spring zone of the karst catchment, the vulnerability map was derived from the application of the PI method...

Characterization of Endolithic Culturable Microbial Communities in Carbonate Rocks from a Typical Karst Canyon in Guizhou (China).

The endolithic environment is a ubiquitous habitat for microorganisms and a critical interface between biology and geology. In this study, a culture-based method and the phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences were used to investigate the diversity of endolithic bacteria and fungi in two main types of carbonate rocks (namely dolomite and limestone...

Factors Affecting Public-Supply Well Vulnerability in Two Karst Aquifers

Karst aquifers occur in a range of climatic and geologic settings. Nonetheless, they are commonly characterized by their vulnerability to water-quality impairment. Two karst aquifers, the Edwards aquifer in south-central Texas and the Upper Floridan aquifer in western Florida, were investigated to assess factors that control the movement of contaminants to public-supply wells (PSWs). The geoche...
